Alcohol Meter

Alcohol Meter

An Alcohol Meter is an essential tool for homebrewers and distillers, offering precise measurements of alcohol content. An alcoholmeter measures alcohol percentage in water-alcohol solutions via buoyancy (Archimedes' principle). Calibrated at 20°C, it floats vertically—higher alcohol content reduces liquid density, causing the meter to sink deeper.

The visible scale at the liquid's surface shows % ABV (alcohol by volume). Temperature adjustments are required for samples ≠20°C using alcoholometry tables. Works only for pure ethanol-water mixtures; additives like sugars distort readings by altering density. Use a 250 ml graduated cylinder for 30 cm alcohol meters. For the smaller ones a 100 ml graduated cylinder is long enough.
